The Dark Knight (2008) Empty
PostSubject: The Dark Knight (2008)   The Dark Knight (2008) EmptyMon Nov 26, 2007 6:05 am

I have learned a lot of inside information, and upon realizing how true it was I stopped reading. Laughing I all ready know more than I wanted to and I won't spoil it for anyone else by telling. I'll just let it be.

But to give a general outline in keeping more with what's all ready known; the Joker (Heath Ledger) is the main villain and proves to be a major threat for both the police and the underworld of Gotham. Harvey Dent runs for District Attorney, and there appears to be a romantic attraction between him and Rachel Dawes. Mob bosses go to war with each other, with Scarecrow in the mix. Vigilantes following Batman's example (but with more violent methods) further contribute to make Gotham one nightmarish place to be! In times of desperation, the underworld turns to the Joker for leadership. I didn't read the storyline far enough to know, but I'm guessing that Harvey Dent becomes Two-Face by the end (although I'm assuming that we won't actually get a decent glimpse of him until film three.)

It promises to be more epic and intense than the first one, and more violent. The Joker's psychology is just as well developed as Batman’s. Like the first film, the first half of this one is mixed with flashbacks to develop character depth. Batman has a new uniform (his underarm blades can now retract, and even shoot!) His neck armour is changed so he can move his head better (why past Batmans keep their head straight in the movies.) I think we'll all be more than pleased! Very Happy

I have to admit that Batman is my favourite superhero and my two sons are also big fans. I showed my 10 yo this thread and his eyes were hanging out of his head in anticipation of the movie coming out. Laughing And with Heath Ledger in it, I know it will be something special. I found Batman Begins a bit slow and ordinary compared to the other ones. It was just so dark and adult-oriented after the beginning movies which were more cartoonish and family friendly. It also makes the events that happened later seem 'younger' or less complex, than
batman when he was first developing into who he would become. I don't like this disjointedness in the series.

But anyway, we will wait and see if the Bat is less moody this time study

Well it's a whole new series. And the films are aimed more for adults; for Batman fans who have grown up and want something they won't feel embarassed about going to see. Laughing But they're also aimed for the kids too, that's true. I liked Batman Begins myself. I am hoping this one will be more entertaining though.

Heath Ledger has big shoes to fill taking over the Joker role from Jack Nicholson...

Yeah I know. Jack was a natural. The only other actor I could see matching or breaking his performance was Tim Curry, but he might be too old by now I guess. But I can see how Ledger might fit in with what the director wanted, a more energetic and staring-eyes-based Joker. Brad Dourif would have been a much better choice, if he was younger...

A different acress plays Racheal Dawes by the way.
